Hand-tufted rugs are made by punching yarn through a stretched backing cloth with a hand-held tool, then sheared and finished by hand. Small variations in pile height and colour are part of the handmade character.
Handmade variation — a shift in tone, a slightly irregular edge — is the character of the process, not a defect.

After tufting, a coat of latex adhesive is applied to the back of a hand-tufted rug to anchor the tufts, followed by a secondary backing cloth.
