The house
A Legacy, Woven Forward.
Carprugs brings a new expression to a family story built over generations — this time through rugs, carpets, material and space.
Carprugs was founded by Rahul Chaurasia and Aman Rahul Chaurasia, carrying forward an entrepreneurial family legacy associated with Ganguram into a new world of material, interiors and design.
The ‘g’ in the identity is a quiet acknowledgement of that lineage.
Carprugs began with a simple observation. Some of the most accomplished rug making in the world happens in India, yet the way it is presented often falls into one of two habits: the crowded showroom, where rugs are stacked by the hundred and sold on price, or the romantic brochure, heavy with legend and light on fact. We wanted something else.
“Carprugs is a new rug and carpet house built on Indian craft and a quiet, contemporary eye.”
A design house whose medium is rugs
We think of Carprugs as a design house that happens to work in wool, silk, cotton and jute. Our starting point is the room: how people live, how light falls, how furniture gathers, how a floor can be made warmer and quieter. From there we work backwards to the rug, and then to the loom.
That means we care about proportion as much as pattern, about fibre as much as colour, and about the way a rug will look in its fifth year as much as on its first day.
Rooted in Indian craft
India has a long and varied tradition of carpet and textile making. Carpet weaving flourished under Mughal patronage, and today regions such as Bhadohi and Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh, Jaipur in Rajasthan, Panipat in Haryana and Kashmir are known for different strengths, from fine silk and wool carpets to hand-knotted rugs and dhurries.
We are not here to claim that tradition as our own. We are here to work with it respectfully: to learn from the people who practise it, to commission pieces that make good use of their skill, and to present those pieces with the clarity they deserve.
A new brand, and honest about it
Carprugs is new. We do not have decades of heritage, a named family workshop or a long archive to point to, and we will not pretend otherwise. What we have is a clear point of view, a commitment to doing things carefully, and a willingness to say what we know and what we are still learning.
You will notice this in how we write. We describe construction plainly. We explain abrash and handmade variation as character, because that is what they are. We keep historical statements general, because the history of carpets is full of confident claims that do not survive scrutiny. And when it comes to makers and sustainability, we set out principles and intentions, and we will publish details only as we are able to verify them.
What we make
Our rugs are organised into collections, each with its own character: from The Heritage Archive and Mughal Garden, which draw on classical Indian design, to Quiet Geometry and Modern Mineral, which pare pattern back to line and tone. The Dhurrie Studio explores India's everyday flatweave. Earth and Fibre works with natural materials and undyed wool.
Alongside rugs, we offer wall-to-wall and bespoke carpeting for homes and hospitality, and a trade programme for architects and interior designers.
What we hope for
We hope that a Carprugs rug will be the kind of object people keep: one that settles into a room, wears gracefully and is eventually handed on. We hope that the way we work will earn trust slowly and deserve it. And we hope to play a small part in showing that Indian craft belongs in the most considered interiors in the world, not as an exotic accent but as a matter of course.
Thank you for spending time with us.
