The story

Mela Multicolour belongs to The Dhurrie Studio. Cotton and wool dhurries in stripes, bands and small geometries — light, practical and endlessly layered. The design pairs bands and pinstripes of varying width — the classic language of the Indian dhurrie with a palette of multicolour.

Close-up of the cotton surface

Cotton. Crisp, breathable and lightweight; the classic dhurrie fibre.

Many flatweaves can be spot cleaned; check label before washing.

Craft

Dhurries. Traditional Indian flat-woven rugs, historically cotton, now also made in wool and jute.

Flat-woven, weft-faced; reversible.

Woven by hand on a loom. The weft may show gentle irregularities in tension and tone — a natural result of hand weaving, not a flaw.

Handmade variation — a shift in tone, a slightly irregular edge — is the character of the process, not a defect.

Care

Many flatweaves can be spot cleaned; check label before washing. Shake out or vacuum on both sides; many flatweaves are reversible and can be turned to even out wear. Use a rug pad to keep the piece flat and in place.

Because they are woven rather than knotted, panja dhurries are lightweight and reversible, unlike pile carpets.
