Rug guide · 07
Handmade rugs vary. These variations are natural character, the marks of materials and hands, not defects.
01
Gentle bands of lighter and darker tone within one colour, caused by dye batches and the yarn itself. Abrash gives a plain field depth and movement.
02
A handmade rug may measure a few centimetres more or less than its stated size, and may not be perfectly square. Weaving, washing and finishing all play a part.
03
Fringes formed from the warps may vary slightly in length. Edges may show a gentle undulation. Neither affects the soundness of the rug.
04
Lines and motifs may show small irregularities, a slightly different curve here, a shifted flower there. They are the trace of the weaver's hand.
